Design Labs are your opportunity to collaborate with others on a variety of topics. These labs offer a place for creative, cross-disciplinary innovation. The labs will be solution-focused to provide ideas and recommendations for the next Community Housing and Homelessness Integrated Plan.

Housing First

Wednesday, July 17 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Housing First (moving people into housing quickly, without any sobriety requirements) is a proven best practice to address chronic and episodic homelessness. This session will explore ways to enhance such programs in Red Deer leveraging market and non-market housing across communities.

Youth Homelessness Prevention & Sustained Exits Family & Natural Support

Wednesday, July 17 from 6 - 8 p.m.

Exploring the most current thinking on policy, planning and practice to prevent and sustain exits from youth homelessness to identify priorities, strategies and approaches appropriate for Red Deer. Topics explored may include Family and Natural Supports Work; School-Based Early Interventions; Housing First for Youth; Youth Supportive Housing.

The Plan will have a considerable capital ask; we will need to find ways to bring stock online that is truly affordable for those on very low incomes. Explore options such as social impact bonds, housing trusts, and incentives to support development.
