Selection and Hiring

The goal of our selection program is to identify candidates who possess the core competencies and critical skills necessary to become highly competent 9-1-1 Emergency Dispatchers. The selection process begins with a thorough review of submitted resumes and applications. Individuals who are selected from this review will be contacted by phone for an interview and invited to challenge our intake testing procedure. Candidates who successfully complete the evaluation process may then be offered a place in an upcoming 9-1-1 Emergency Dispatcher training program.

Applicants must be certified in EFD (Emergency Fire Dispatch Certification), and CPR.  

Basic Requirements to be a 9-1-1 Emergency Dispatcher

  • minimum grade 12
  • typing skills of 40 wpm
  • ability to obtain RCMP security clearance
  • effective interpersonal communication skills
  • strong organizational abilities
  • stress management skills
  • effective listening skills
  • good keyboard and computer skills
