Domestic Violence Information and Resources

Male being arrested by two officers

When police assistance is required at a domestic violence situation, call 911 if it’s an emergency, or the RCMP complaint line at 403-343-5575.

The Red Deer RCMP Domestic Violence Unit is made up of three RCMP members and a social worker. The Red Deer RCMP Victim Services Unit provides many supports for victims of domestic violence.

Domestic violence can include mental, physical, sexual and/or emotional abuse by one partner toward his or her partner, their children, or the elderly and disabled. Abusers may try to intimidate or control their victims by destroying personal property, withdrawing access to children or pets, or keeping victims from contact with friends or family.

If you think it’s a domestic violence situation, make the call:
Dial 911 for emergencies or RCMP complaint line at 403-343-5575.

RCMP members will attend the scene and begin an investigation; they will assess the safety of everyone involved and interview the victim and witnesses.

If a criminal offence has taken place and there are sufficient grounds for arrest, the police will arrest the accused. The accused may be arrested even if the victim does not want this to happen. The accused is then taken to the detachment for processing, where they can contact legal counsel and provide a statement if they are willing to do so. The accused may be remanded in custody or released with conditions.

Please contact the Domestic Violence Unit at 403-406-2330 if you have further questions.
