The City of Red Deer is proud to host the 2019 Canada Winter Games from February 15 - March 3, 2019.

Why host the 2019 Canada Winter Games?

  • The 2019 Canada Winter Games is the largest multi-sport event to be hosted in Alberta since the 1988 Olympics. 
  • An expected economic impact of more than $132 million.
  • 20,000 visitors expected to visit Red Deer for the event, with up to 3600 participants from across our nation to compete in 19 sports.

Great Chief Park Enhancement Project

Under construction is a new pavilion building, and synthetic sports field that will double as outdoor speed skating oval during the winter. This facility will host long track speed skating during the 2019 Games

River Bend Enhancements

Work is happening to enhance the trails at River Bend Golf and Recreation Area, renovate the biathlon range, and construct a stadium area to host cross country skiing and biathlon during the 2019 Games.

Canada Winter Games plaza

For the 2019 Canada Winter Games, Central Elementary School will be re-purposed and a Canada Games Celebration Plaza will be developed. Note that the sketch above is concept only.

The City Red Deer is a proud contributor to the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre at Red Deer College; venue for short track speed skating, squash, wheelchair basketball, figure skating and badminton during the 2019 Games.
