Building permits took a major leap forward in April, with values surpassing April 2017 by more than 250 per cent. Building permits rose from an estimated $6 million in April 2017 to $21.4 million last month thanks to a few key commercial development permits.

Year-to-date building permits continue to rise in value over 2017 for the first four months of the year in Red Deer. So far this year, total permits have been valued at $82.3 million compared to $35.4 million last year at this time.

Commercial, industrial and public sector permits continue to be the strong leaders with permit values in April surpassing last April’s, with residential values lagging.

Notable permits for April include a permit valued at $15 million for an addition at the Westerner; a permit valued at $3.7 million for PharmaSave tenant improvements at 115-4309 52 Avenue; and a $3.6 million permit for renovations at the south end Walmart.

Monthly permit statistics are available on The City’s website at: Red Deer Open Data Catalogue.
