On Monday, July 8, City Council will discuss options for regulating fireworks within Red Deer city limits.
Red Deer Emergency Services will present a variety of options ranging from full restriction to exemptions on certain days of the year.
“Public safety is our top concern as it relates to fireworks and their use,” said Ken McMullen, Chief of Red Deer Emergency Services. “We are looking to Council to determine what those regulations should be here in Red Deer.”
Earlier this year, the Province of Alberta chose to be regulated by the National Fire Code as opposed to its own provincial code which had been in place since 1984. This change leaves municipalities to determine the regulations for fireworks sale and use within their own boundaries.
