On Friday night, The City of Red Deer hosted its annual Employee Recognition Awards Banquet. Throughout the night, long term service employees were recognized for their commitment to the organization and others received recognition for innovation, environmental sustainability, for being future leaders in the organization and for other job-related accomplishments.

The main event of the evening was the presentation of the Bob Stollings Memorial Award. This award was established by City Council in 1985 and is presented every year to honour Robert (Bob) E. Stollings, a loyal and dedicated employee of The City of Red Deer from 1960 to 1984. The recipient of this award has displayed outstanding civic performance in alignment with The City’s Cornerstone Values – Respect, Integrity, Service and Excellence. Nominations are submitted by fellow coworkers detailing the employee’s achievements professionally and interpersonally, along with letters of support.

This year’s Bob Stollings Memorial Award was presented to Curtis Martinek. He is the Projects Superintendent with Recreation, Parks and Culture. Curtis has led many major projects for The City of Red Deer, which has him working alongside fellow City staff, local agencies and third-party contractors.

“The Bob Stollings Memorial Award is our most prestigious award, not only because it recognizes the recipient’s professional accomplishments, but because the winner is nominated by their peers – a true accomplishment to earn the trust and respect of those around them,” said Kristy Svoboda, Director of Human Resources. “Curtis has proven over the years that he is an invaluable asset to our organization, he truly embodies our corporate values in every aspect of his role, making him the perfect recipient for this year’s honour.”
