Jane’s Walk encourages residents to explore Red Deer this weekend

(Red Deer, Alberta)

Resident-led walks will guide people through different areas of Red Deer this weekend.

Residents have organized multiple guided tours through Red Deer and the public are invited to join a walk to learn about our community.

Jane's Walk is an international event that promotes free, citizen-led walking tours each year. The event was inspired by urban activist Jane Jacobs, who encouraged others to take a walk to learn more about the neighbourhoods that surround us. This event recognizes the built environment, one of the areas of focus in The City’s Environmental Master Plan.

“This is the seventh year Red Deer has participated,” said Bailey Doepker, Environmental Program Specialist. “Jane’s Walk gets residents talking about what they're passionate about in our community.”

At least four walks will be hosted this year from Friday, May 5 through Sunday, May 7. More information on Jane’s Walk and details on local walks can be found at reddeer.ca/janeswalk .
