Majority of neighbourhood outdoor skating rinks set to open next week

December 6, 2018 12:08 PM
(Red Deer, Alberta)

Red Deerians will be able to lace up their skates and visit an outdoor rink next week.

City crews have been hard at work to ensure most outdoor neighbourhood rinks will be ready for use by Friday, December 14. When community shelter rinks are ready for use the nets will be put out and lights will be turned on.

At this time, natural skating surfaces at Anders On The Lake, Bower Ponds and West Lake remain closed as the ice is not thick enough to skate safely. When natural ice surfaces are safe to use the thin ice warning signs will be removed, and an updated release will be issued.

We would like to remind everyone that the use of helmets is recommended at all times.
