February 26, 2016 10:05 PM
(Red Deer, Alberta)

This evening more than 100 employees were recognized at the 35th annual City of Red Deer Employee Recognition Awards Banquet.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Bob Stollings Memorial Award. This award, established by City Council on January 21, 1985 to honour Robert E. (Bob) Stollings, a loyal and dedicated employee of The City of Red Deer from 1960 to 1984, is presented annually to an employee who has displayed outstanding civic performance in alignment with The City’s Cornerstone Values – Respect, Integrity, Service and Excellence.

This year’s recipient of the Bob Stollings Memorial Award is Joe Pelz. Joe began his career at The City 30 years ago as a seasonal labourer and is currently in the role of Parks Foreman 1. Joe and his team are responsible for the planning, planting and maintenance of City Hall Park. Joe is also involved in many other events such as Red Deer Lights the Night, the Mayor’s Garden Party, Centrefest and the Festival of Trees.

Co-workers of Joe describe him as well-respected, dependable, positive, an environmental steward and innovator, an expert in his field, and a leader and collaborator with his staff. These, along with many other strong qualities made Joe the perfect candidate for this prestigious award.

Employees were also recognized in the categories of long service, safety, and special recognition.
