Nine residences in Sunnybrook under boil water advisory

February 11, 2016 2:49 PM
(Red Deer, Alberta)

Nine residences on Somerset Close and Springfield Avenue are under boil water advisory until further notice after a water main leak occurred at approximately 11 a.m. this morning.

Water is currently shut off to the affected residences and crews are working to fix the leak. As soon as water is restored, the affected residents are advised to bring water to a rolling boil for at least one minute, prior to drinking, cooking, washing food, or brushing teeth.

The boil water advisory was issued as a precautionary measure as the drinking water supply may be contaminated with the surrounding soil during the water main repair. Once the water line is repaired, The City will send water samples to Alberta Health Services to ensure no contamination.

City staff went door-to-door to the affected residences this afternoon. In the case that no one answered, a notice and information package was left on the front door or in the mailbox.
