Calling all local musicians

January 12, 2016 2:39 PM
(Red Deer, Alberta)

Do you want to be a part of Red Deer’s story? The City of Red Deer is looking for local artists who want to have their original songs recorded and used for a series of promotional videos about the community we live in and love.

“We are producing a series of videos in 2016 to highlight the identity of Red Deer and our citizens, and we want to be able to showcase the great local talent we have available to us,” said Julia Harvie-Shemko, Director of Communications & Strategic Planning. “We are looking for a song that not only aligns with our videos, but that speaks to our residents in a way that only local talent can.”

Contest entrants must live or have once lived in central Alberta for a period longer than one year. They are required to write and submit one or more of their original songs to be used for the videos, and they do not have to be professionally recorded.

The winner of the contest will have the opportunity to professionally record their song at a local recording studio, retain the use of their professionally recorded song for personal and business needs, and also receive recognition for the song being used for the videos.

“We are excited to hear what Red Deerians have to offer us,” said Harvie-Shemko.

Interested local musicians must submit their original song(s) by February 15, 2016 at 4:30 p.m.

Songs can be submitted by email to communications@reddeer.ca, or dropped off at City Hall, 4914 48 Avenue – Attention: Communications.
