Gas flaring scheduled for Red Deer well site

January 4, 2016 4:14 PM
(Red Deer, Alberta)

Gas flaring will take place over the next month starting Tuesday, January 5 at a Hard Rock Resources-owned well, located at approximately 1.5 kilometres northwest of Civic Yards.

The public may notice the flame. Red Deer Emergency Services is aware of the plans and is satisfied there is no risk to public safety.

Hard Rock will flare gas through a 30 foot flare intermittently, both day and night, over the next 30 days as it determines production rates for the well.

The City has asked the Blackfalds-based oil and gas company:

  • To provide a fire safety plan.
  • To monitor and minimize production of any smoke, and inform Parkland Airshed Management Zone (PAMZ) of their plans.
  • To minimize noise. Because this is a low volume, low pressure flare, noise issues are not expected; however, the initial flare and ignition may be louder and the company has been asked to start up during the day.

Hard Rock is conducting the natural gas flaring in compliance with the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER).

Any public questions should be directed to Mark McMurray, Hard Rock Resources, at 403-357-7637.
