Heritage conservation, education and awareness in the Red Deer area is the focus for the 2016 Heritage Recognition Awards being launched next week.

On February 3, 2016 from 11 a.m. to noon, The City of Red Deer and Red Deer County are hosting an event to launch the call for submissions at the Red Deer Museum + Art Gallery, 4525 47A Avenue.

“These awards recognize individuals and groups who have made an impact in preserving our heritage,” said Paul Gowans, Chairperson with the Heritage Preservation Committee. “Whether you’re a heritage enthusiast or would just like to learn more about the history of Red Deer and area, you’re welcome to attend the launch.”

Members of the Heritage Preservation Committee will be in attendance to answer questions.

“The location is perfect for an event like this,” said Gowans. “After the launch, attendees will have an opportunity to tour the Red Deer Museum + Art Gallery.”

Nominations for Heritage Recognition Awards will be accepted starting February 3 until 3 p.m. on June 30, 2016.

The 2016 Heritage Recognition Awards will be held Friday, October 21 at Red Deer County Council Chambers.
