Rain barrel program extended

(Red Deer, Alberta)

Due to popular demand and the need to conserve water because of anticipated dry conditions this summer, The City of Red Deer is extending funding for the Rain Barrel Rebate Program.

The Rain Barrel Rebate Program, which began in April, provides residents with a $50 rebate for the purchase of a rain barrel of their choice. Limited funding will be available until August 31, 2016.

Rain barrels collect and store rain water that runs off the roof and can be used to water yards and for landscaping, reducing the need to use treated water from the tap.

Residents can apply for the program online or in person:

  • Online through reddeer.ca/rainbarrels
  • In Person – Pick up an application form from the first floor of City Hall (4914 - 48 Avenue) or from the Environmental Services front desk at Civic Yards (7721 - 40 Avenue)

A limited number of rebates are available on a first come, first-served basis. A rebate of 50 per cent of the cost of the rain barrel, up to a maximum of $50, is applied to the household’s utility account. Applicants must have a City of Red Deer utility account, submit the receipt along with the application form and purchase the rain barrel within the 2016 calendar year.

Residents can learn more and purchase rain barrels at the Rain Barrel and Composter Sale, hosted by ReThink Red Deer and Green Calgary on Saturday, July 16, 2016, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the London Drugs Parking Lot (109, 2004 50 Ave, Red Deer).
