Discover a new side of Red Deer through a Jane’s Walk

(Red Deer, Alberta)

Lace up your walking shoes and explore Red Deer’s diverse neighbourhoods by joining in on a Jane’s Walk this weekend. These walks are hosted by local Red Deerians who have a unique perspective on our city and its character.

In its sixth year, Jane's Walk promotes free, citizen-led walking tours inspired by urban activist Jane Jacobs, who encouraged others to look at communities from a pedestrian-centered approach and to get out and take a walk to learn more about the neighbourhoods around us.

“These walks are really walking conversations,” said Matthew Chambers, Environmental Program Specialist. “It’s all about local people telling local stories about their communities and connecting with neighbours.”

Jane’s Walk celebrates built environment, one of the seven focus areas in The City’s Environmental Master Plan, and its goal to create well-integrated compact communities that minimize negative environmental impacts.

At least nine walks will be hosted this year from Friday, May 6 through Sunday, May 8. More information on Jane’s Walk and details on local walks can be found at
