The speed skating oval at Setters Place at Great Chief Park will be open for the winter season beginning December 17.

This facility will serve as the long track speed skating venue for the 2019 Canada Winter Games coming to Red Deer February 15 to March 3, 2019.

“We are very pleased to announce that The City’s newest outdoor ice facility is ready to be enjoyed by the public and will serve as home ice for the Central Lions Speed Skating Club”, says Deb Comfort, Neighbourhood Facilities and Sport Supervisor.

Setters Place boasts a unique 400 metre outdoor ice surface built directly on top of the sport field’s synthetic turf. Both the ice oval and the beautiful meeting room that overlooks it are available for private bookings, making it a great place to host special events.

“To share in the celebration of this fantastic facility and the legacy of the 2019 Canada Winter Games, The City is pleased to provide free access for all public skating during the 2018/2019 winter season,” states Comfort.
