August 4, 2016 2:23 PM

Red Deer, Alberta – Red Deer RCMP are investigating a residential break and enter at a home in the West lake neighbourhood of Red Deer, in which the thieves stole more than $53,000 worth of jewellery.

The break-in was discovered at 3 pm on July 20 and the investigation to date suggests a male suspect may have forced the back door of the house shortly before 1 pm that day. Once inside, the thief stole numerous pieces of jewellery valued conservatively at approximately $53,500. Most notably for its irreplaceable sentimental value, the thief stole a silver necklace of a hummingbird that contains a portion of the ashes of a deceased loved one.

Other stolen items include:

  • 14 k gold heavy rope chain
  • 2 diamond solitaire rings
  • Men’s gold chain bracelet and women’s gold chain bracelet
  • Men’s gold ring with ace and king of hearts
  • Men’s gold playing card pendant
  • 2 pairs of diamond earrings (1 with white gold)
  • Cameo necklace
  • Antique blue diamond ring
  • 18 k gold “Hearts on Fire” anniversary band
  • Gold Movado women’s watch and another gold women’s watch
  • Men’s diamond Wittnauer watch and men’s Pulsar watch with leather band
  • Men’s wedding band and women’s wedding band
  • Gold hoop earrings, two wedding ring sets

RCMP continue to investigate, and would like to remind the public that if you purchase jewellery through unconventional methods or without any proof of ownership or authenticity by the seller, you may be purchasing stolen property and benefiting from the victimization of innocent people. When RCMP determine property has been stolen, they will seize that property from the holder and attempt to return it to its rightful owner.
