Red Deer RCMP announce new Officer in Charge

August 25, 2016 2:05 PM

Red Deer, Alberta – Chief Superintendent Jerry Scott, District Commander of the Central Alberta RCMP, is pleased to announce that a new Officer in Charge has been appointed to the Red Deer RCMP detachment. Inspector Ken Foster is anticipated to take over full-time operations by late Fall; after arriving in Red Deer, he will assume the rank of Superintendent.

“Crime continues to be a priority for City Council and the community,” said City Manager Craig Curtis. “I look forward to working with Inspector Foster to continue work on the City’s policing and crime prevention initiatives.”

Foster has 25 years of service with the RCMP where he has moved through the ranks and across the country since 1991. In 2015, he was appointed the Officer in Charge for the St. Albert detachment, and prior to that, he resided in the Yukon where he oversaw twelve detachments, the Division Air Services, Forensic Identification Section, Traffic Section, Police Dog Section and Relief Unit.

Born in Calgary, Foster spent much of his RCMP career in Alberta. He is a former Innisfail resident and still has roots in and around Red Deer.

“I am excited to be returning home to central Alberta and joining the Red Deer detachment where I was sworn in to the RCMP nearly 25 years ago,” said Inspector Foster. “I’m extremely honoured to have been selected as the Officer in Charge of Red Deer Detachment and look forward to leading and working with the dedicated and hardworking members and staff of the detachment as we continue to work collaboratively with the community.”

Inspector Heidi Wild has been the Acting Detachment Commander since May 6, 2016. “We are delighted to welcome Inspector Foster to Red Deer,” said Wild. “We’re a busy detachment full of dedicated police officers, with a strong focus on reducing property and persons crimes, working with youth and creating safer roads, and we look forward to benefiting from Inspector Foster’s leadership and experience.”
