Red Deer, Alberta – Red Deer RCMP have arrested a Red Deer man for the March 13 armed robbery at the North Hill Store and the March 14 armed robbery at Express 24.
Thanks to tips from the public, RCMP soon identified the suspect and began searching for him; police located him shortly after 3 am on March 17 in a vehicle in the parking lot of a Ross Street gas station and took him into custody without incident. He had also been identified as a suspect in a theft from a liquor store on March 16 after being caught on camera stealing a bottle of rye, and was further wanted on a number of unrelated warrants for offenses including assault with a weapon, sexual assault, and use of an imitation firearm.
32 year old Tyler Alexander Coombs of Red Deer faces the following charges:
- Criminal Code 334(b) – Robbery X 2
- Criminal Code 344(a)(a.1) – Robbery using firearm X 2
- Criminal Code 85(2)(a) – Use imitation firearm while committing offense
- Criminal Code 145(3) – Fail to comply with recognizance X 7
- Criminal Code 145(2)(a) – Fail to attend court
- Criminal Code 272(2)(b) – Sexual assault
- Criminal Code 267(a) – Assault with a weapon
- Criminal Code 279(2) – Forcible confinement
Coombs makes his first court appearance this morning, March 18 at 9:30 am in Red Deer.

Red Deer RCMP investigate armed robberies at two convenience stores
Red Deer, Alberta – Red Deer RCMP are investigating two armed robberies that took place Sunday evening and in the early hours of Monday morning at two convenience stories in Red Deer.
The first armed robbery occurred shortly after 5 pm on March 13 when a man entered the North Hill Store on 59 Avenue displaying a handgun. He demanded cash and a number of cartons of cigarettes. The suspect is described as wearing a white coat, black toque and blue jeans.
The second armed robbery occurred shortly before 3 am on March 14 when a man entered the Express 24 Foodmart on Erickson Drive and demanded cash and a number of cartons of cigarettes. The suspect is described as approximately 5’10” tall with a heavy build, approximately 240 lbs. He had a red goatee and wore a black coat, faded blue jeans, white running shoes, black sunglasses and a 'Coors' toque.
At this point in the investigation, police believe it is likely that the robberies were done by the same suspect. Red Deer RCMP will send updates as more information become available.
