Red Deer RCMP investigate motors located in park

October 6, 2016 1:47 PM

Red Deer, Alberta – Red Deer RCMP continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding two large motors that were located in a city green space on September 26.

RCMP received a report the morning of September 26 that two large motors had been found in the area of the CPR Walking Bridge and 53 Avenue. One was located just off the path sitting on a yellow jack, and the second had been placed into the trees and covered with branches. Each engine weighs between 300 and 500 pounds and RCMP have not yet determined how they were transported to the area.

Police believe the engines may have been stolen for the copper wire contained in them, although that copper wire had not yet been removed; RCMP have not been able to link the engines to any recent thefts or break-ins in the area so far.

One engine was manufactured by Teco-Westinghouse and the other by English Electric Company of Canada. Please see attached photos of the engines.

If you have information about this incident, please contact the Red Deer RCMP at 403.343.5575. If you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1.800.222.8477 or report it online.
