Red Deer RCMP and SCAN target problem residence

September 7, 2016 12:09 PM

Red Deer, Alberta – A Red Deer woman was arrested on warrants yesterday after failing to appear in court on weapons charges that came out of a search warrant RCMP executed at a Red Deer residence on July 7.

The Red Deer RCMP Community Response Unit and the SCAN (Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods) unit began a drug trafficking investigation after SCAN received a number of public complaints regarding a residence in the area of 59 Street and 56 Avenue. The investigation took place over a period of several weeks in June and early July; at approximately 9 pm on July 7, Red Deer RCMP attended the residence and executed a search warrant of the house, the yard and the garage. Police seized quantities of illegal and prescription drugs, a rifle and ammunition, brass knuckles and bear spray.

19 year old Shae-Lyn Jade Golden of Red Deer has been charged with:

  • Criminal Code 92(3)(b) – Possession of firearm when knowing possession is unauthorized – second offence X 2
  • Criminal Code 117.01(3) – Possess weapons contrary to order X 2

At the time of her arrest on July 7, Shae-Lyn Golden was also wanted on warrants out of Blackfalds and Edmonton. Golden was released on a promise to appear in court in Red Deer on August 30 at 9:30 am. When she failed to appear in court, warrants were issued for her arrest. Red Deer RCMP located her at 2 pm on September 6 and took her into custody without incident. She was remanded in custody and made her next court appearance on September 7 at 9:30 am.

SCAN is part of Alberta Justice and Solicitor General. The Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods (SCAN) Act helps Albertans to take back their neighbourhoods and deal with problem properties in their communities. Illegal activities are dealt with and safer neighbourhoods are created for the families that live there. SCAN investigations can also assist police by providing information to support criminal investigations.
