This morning, at approximately 8:22 a.m., Red Deer Emergency Services crews responded to an accident on 32 Street and Metcalf Avenue involving a truck and a City Transit bus.

Upon arrival, crews found the driver of the truck had suffered minor injuries and was transported to the hospital by ambulance. The City bus involved, Route 7, was carrying approximately 30 passengers including students from East View Middle School. No serious injuries were reported among the students and passengers. After determining that no one on the bus was hurt, students were transferred to another bus and taken to school.

“We take the safety of the public, other motorists, and our transit operators and passengers very seriously,” said George Penny, Transit Manager. “We will be looking at the circumstances surrounding the accident, and making changes if necessary. I would like to thank all staff and people involved for their speedy and professional response.”

The accident resulted in significant traffic delays for morning commuters with the closure of the two westbound lanes on 32 Street. The scene has since been cleared of the vehicles and debris and has reopened to traffic. The RCMP is continuing its investigation into the incident.
