City Council ratified a new two-year collective agreement with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 254 at its Council meeting today following IBEW members vote to ratify on March 1, 2017.
The agreement is in effect from January 1, 2017 and runs until December 31, 2018.
The two parties met over five days of bargaining. Negotiations were conducted in a respectful and productive manner. The new agreement provides annual wage adjustments for the 44 Electric Light and Power department employees covered by the IBEW collective agreement of 1.75 per cent in 2017, and 2 per cent in 2018.
The agreement covers a variety of positions including Journeyman Lineman, Journeyman Electrician Technician, Electrical Engineering Technologist and Designer. The terms of this agreement allows The City to balance the labour market pressures of the specialized electrical utility field with our current financial and economic realities.
