Traffic delays on 49 Avenue

August 16, 2018 2:09 PM
(Red Deer, Alberta)

Drivers can expect delays on 49 Avenue in the downtown as construction begins to repave the roadway.

49 Avenue, from 43 Street to 55 Street, is scheduled for repaving as part of The City’s Pavement Rehabilitation program. Construction will be done in a multiple steps over the next few weeks in an effort to minimize traffic impacts.

Construction will affect traffic on the following dates:

  • August 18 and 19: lane closures will be in place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for milling. Two lanes of traffic will remain open at all times.
  • August 25 and 26: far east lanes will be closed from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for additional milling to address excess damage.
  • August 28 to 30 (tentative): lane closures will be in place overnight during paving.

Drivers are reminded to slow down when driving in construction zones and obey all signs, and pedestrians are reminded to cross only at designated crosswalks.

All road construction is weather dependent and schedules may be subject to change.
