Red Deer Arena Replacement
- The Red Deer Arena is The City’s main spectator arena with seating up to 1,588 patrons.
- The arena will be used for the 2019 Canada Winter Games being hosted in Red Deer. In order to build a new facility in time for the games, planning for a new arena began in 2015 with construction scheduled for completion in 2018.
- Replacing the arena is the most financially viable solution as the cost to renovate the arena over the next 10 years would cost just slightly less than the current value of the existing building.
|2015||The City of Red Deer solicited proposals from
qualified design-build firms for the design and
construction of a replacement arena facility. Capital
budget was approved based on the replacement
of a similar sized facility.
|2016 - 2018||construction of the new arena|
|2018||parking lot that services the arena, Kinex arena,
Parks Amenities Shop, Pidherney Centre and Skate Park
will be resurfaced.
Budget Requirements, Council Decision Points and Funding Sources
During the 2015 capital budget, Council approved the multi-year project totaling $21,593,000. The project will be funded from debt.
