The G.H. Dawe Centre expansion project is intended to ensure The City can continue to meet our community’s recreation and fitness needs into the future. The Kinex Arena is nearing the end of its lifespan and the G.H. Dawe Centre Expansion has been prioritized to ensure that we continue to meet current service levels in the number of ice surfaces that we offer. The facility expansion was identified as part of the G.H. Dawe Master Plan and the Ice Facilities Plan.

- The proposed facility expansion would expand the G.H. Dawe Community Centre providing an improved sport competition venue with additional spaces for active living and community programming, and the capacity to host tournaments including accessible ice sports like sledge hockey.
- The proposed expansion includes two NHL-sized ice surfaces (upgrading of the existing ice surface to NHL standards and one new ice surface), expanded fitness and active living areas, a running track, a fully accessible and equipped change room adjacent to the water park, a new outdoor spray park with dedicated washroom and change space, enhanced parking and traffic flow around the facility and a new right-in, right-out access to eastbound 67 Street. Redevelopment to allow for the expanded facility will require playground amenities to be relocated on the site with new structures.
