The RCMP Downtown Team registered their patrol bikes with 529 Garage today. The 529 Garage bike registry has proven to decrease the number of bicycle thefts in communities across North America.
“529 Garage is an additional tool that Red Deerians can use to help prevent being a victim of property theft,” said Inspector Mark Groves, Operations Support Officer with the Red Deer RCMP. “The registration process is extremely fast, and we ask citizens to take the few moments to register their bikes.”
Registered bikes displaying the tamper proof 529 Garage decal works to deter potential thieves by letting the thief know the theft will be noticed, reported and ultimately has a higher chance of being recovered.
“It is also important to continue to report bike thefts and any crime to Red Deer RCMP,” said Groves.
“Red Deer RCMP continues to ask for the public’s participation in crime prevention and also reporting all crimes, including bike thefts, to RCMP by calling 403-343-5575.”
Reducing bike theft by registering your bike with 529 Garage can be done in two simple steps. Register your bike for free online at project529.com/reddeer or by downloading the 529 Garage app on your smart device, and then shield your bike by affixing a tamper-resistant decal to your bike. Decals are available to purchase at the Central Alberta Crime Prevention Centre at 3-5015 48 Street, Red Deer.
