Late Payment Penalties

Any tax balance that remains unpaid after the due date will be penalized as per the Tax Penalty Bylaw 3546/2015 (pdf) If you do not pay your taxes by the due date your account will be charged a penalty as outlined below.

On April 12, 2021 Red Deer City Council approved the reduction of penalties to provide financial relief.

It is your responsibility to ensure your payment is processed by the appropriate due date. Be aware of your financial institution's processing times if using internet or telephone banking.

Other Fees and Charges

Additional fees and charges apply for specific services performed by the Revenue and Assessment department per the Revenue and Assessment Service Fee Bylaw 3611/2018 (pdf)  

$40/transfer Additions to Tax Roll Transferring unpaid costs (i.e. A/R or Utilities) to the tax roll as allowed under legislation.
$15/copy Account Document Providing an invoice, notice, statement or any other other form of City communication that has been previously provided to the citizen and/or is available online to the citizen free of charge.
$15/request Payment Error Customer requested refund or re-distribution of payment as a result of an error in payment by the customer.
$15/tax roll Property Tax information to Lending Institutions Tax information provided to lending institutions to allow them to pay the property owner's tax account.
$35/request Tax Certificate A document certifying the amount of taxes imposed for the current year for a specific property or business, including the amount of current taxes owing and the total amount of tax arrears.
$30/request Assessment Report Information regarding property or business assessment for a specific property.
The property owner will be provided the current year assessment information plus three additional comparable properties at no charge.
$40/ Residential or Multifamily Property

Assessment Information Section 299 Request Formal request for information under s. 299 of the Municipal Government Act and Regulations.
$30/ Residential or Multifamily Property

Assessment Information Section 300 Request Formal request for information provided under s. 300 of the Municipal Government Act and Regulations.
$75/notification Tax Recovery Notification/Lien  The registration and discharge of the Tax Recovery notification lien.
$210/property Returned City Land Sale Agreement  Tax and Assessment administration costs for processing the property from taxable to exempt for a returned City Land Sale.
$30/roll Local Improvement Letter Confirmation and information of local improvement levy for a specific property including payout information.
$75/hour plus $2.00 per account Customized Reports/Maps Customized reports or maps detailing information for more than one property or account tailored to the customer's specific request. Requests are considered at the discretion of Revenue and Assessment based on departmental work-plans, and the protection or privacy and confidentiality legislation.
$75/hour Other Information Information for a specific property or account. Pre-negotiated.
