Westerner Storm Pond Reconstruction Project
The City of Red Deer is reconstructing the Westerner Storm Water Pond through funding provided by the federal government. This storm water pond collects run-off water from Westerner Park facilities, parking lots and 49 Avenue before it is released into Piper Creek. In recent years, there have been issues with the pond stemming from the sediment, beaver dams within Piper Creek, as well as drainage and debris issues. There is also limited access for maintenance and operation as there is one vehicle access point.
The grant will allow The City’s Environmental Services group to address these concerns as well as install an Oil and Grit Separator in this storm water system. This project is expected to be completed this fall with landscaping work to be completed in 2024.
