City facility closures

The following City facilities are closed:

  • City Hall
  • Downtown RCMP detachment front counter
  • Emergency Services buildings are closed to the public, however emergency services (e.g. ambulance, fire) will be provided as usual
  • City Administration facilities, including:
    • City departments located within the Professional Building (located at 4808 50 Street)
    • Civic Yards (located at 7721 40 Avenue)
    • Land and Economic Development office (located at 5000 51 Avenue)

City-operated recreation and culture facilities:

  • Collicutt Centre
  • Culture Services (former Intermediate School)
  • G.H. Dawe Recreation Centre
  • Great Chief Park
  • Kinex Arena
  • Kinsmen Community Arenas
  • Michener Aquatic Centre
  • Recreation Centre
  • Servus Arena
  • Setters Place at Great Chief Park

Contractor-operated recreation and culture facilities:

  • All neighbourhood activity centres
  • Cronquist House
  • Bower Ponds Pavilion
  • Edgar Athletic Sportsfields
  • Festival Hall
  • Fort Normandeau
  • Heritage Ranch (with the exception of the Westlake Grill Restaurant which is adhering to Provincial Health requirements)

  • Red Deer Memorial Centre
  • Red Deer Museum + Art Gallery
  • Red Deer Public Library

All sport field bookings are cancelled through June 30, 2020. Spontaneous use of these spaces is also prohibited through June 30, 2020.

Additionally, all public washrooms and drinking fountains in the parks system are closed.

Event cancellations

Alberta Health has implemented measures to enforce mandatory mass gathering restrictions during the COVID-19 public health emergency.

All community events hosted by The City of Red Deer are cancelled through June 30, 2020 in accordance with the Alberta public health orders, which include prohibiting persons in the province from attending mass gatherings of more than 15 attendees.

Special Event Permits

  • Special Event Permits will not be issued for events being held before June 30, 2020.
  • Special Event Permits already approved for events held before June 30, 2020 are cancelled.

What about privately-owned providers inside City facilities?

All leaseholders and businesses within City-owned facilities are also closed. This excludes Red Deer Minor Hockey, which has separate entry at Servus Arena.

Parking Downtown

As of March 19, 2020 parking fees in the daily lots and meters downtown have been waived. We are reviewing monthly lots and will be in contact with pass holders directly once a decision has been made.

Call Centre

We are here for you! The City of Red Deer’s call centre is available for residents to make non-emergency inquiries about COVID-19 as it relates to City facilities and policies. The call centre is in place to provide general information to residents and to ease the strain on the Alberta Healthlink (811) and emergency (911) switchboards. Residents are reminded to call 8-1-1 for non-emergency health information about COVID-19 and 9-1-1 only in the case of a life-threatening emergency or a crime in progress.
