What is closed?

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced many organizations to change the way they do business, including The City of Red Deer. We have temporarily closed many facilities and implemented new policies to prevent the spread as we continue serving our residents. Click the links below to find out what has changed and check back often. We will update this page with new information as decisions are made. 

City facility closures

City facilities:

  • City Hall
  • Downtown RCMP detachment front counter
  • Emergency Services buildings are closed to the public, however emergency services (e.g. ambulance, fire) will be provided as usual
  • City Administration facilities, including:
    • City departments located within the Professional Building (located at 4808 50 Street)
    • Civic Yards (located at 7721 40 Avenue)
    • Land and Economic Development office (located at 5000 51 Avenue)
  • All facility bookings and events are cancelled until Phase 3 of the province's re-opening plan is introduced. This includes bookings using outdoor spaces, such as the Downtown Wednesday Farmers Market and Ross Street Patio
  • Archives, located in the Red Deer Museum + Art Gallery

City-operated recreation and culture facilities:

  • Collicutt Centre
  • Culture Services (former Intermediate School)
  • G.H. Dawe Recreation Centre
  • Great Chief Park
  • Kinex Arena
  • Kinsmen Community Arenas
  • Michener Aquatic Centre
  • Recreation Centre, including the outdoor pool
  • Servus Arena
  • Setters Place at Great Chief Park
Contractor-operated recreation and culture facilities
  • All neighbourhood activity centres
  • Cronquist House
  • Bower Ponds Pavilion*
  • Edgar Athletic Sportsfields
  • Festival Hall
  • Fort Normandeau, including the boat launch
  • Heritage Ranch (with the exception of the Westlake Grill Restaurant which is adhering to Alberta Health requirements)
  • Kerry Wood Nature Centre* and Allan Bungalow
  • Pidherney Centre
  • Red Deer Memorial Centre
  • Red Deer Museum + Art Gallery*
  • Red Deer Public Library
  • Red Deer Tennis Club*
  • YMCA (Northside Community Centre)

Note: all amenities marked with an "*" are slated to open in Phase 1 (as early as May 14) following provincial direction based on Public Health Orders. 

Outdoor amenities
  • Boat and Canoe Launch at Fort Normandeau
  • Fitness parks
  • Mini-courts
  • Picnic shelters and gazebos
  • Playgrounds will begin to reopen with a phased approach between now and May 29, 2020. Please refrain from using playground or outdoor fitness structures until crews remove the closed signs and caution tape.
  • Sport fields (ball diamonds, soccer, cricket pitches, etc.) are not available for league play (only spontaneous, non-contact, unorganized sport are allowed).
