Toys for Tickets wraps up with 300 gifts for families in need

(Red Deer, Alberta)

More than 300 toys were collected in lieu of payment for parking tickets as part of The City’s annual Toys for Tickets program. Toys were collected at City Hall for parking tickets issued between November 1 and December 2.

All of the toys collected are delivered to the Red Deer Christmas Bureau to help the organization meet its goal that no child wakes up without a toy on Christmas morning

“Even with the economy as it is, Red Deerians continued to help families in need,” said Fred Dieno, Parking Coordinator. “Our community has pulled through in making generous donations to help families celebrate this holiday season.”

Of the 2800 issued tickets eligible for this program, 226 were paid for with a toy. With the early payment rate in effect, the toys collected were valued at $5,410.

Citizens donated everything from gift cards to toy trains.

This was the tenth year of the Toys for Tickets program.
