(Red Deer, Alberta)

Approximately 200 local emergency services personnel will see a wage increase after a new two and a half year Collective Agreement was ratified by the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local 1190 yesterday.

The two parties met over nine days of bargaining.  A Mediator provided recommended terms of settlement that were accepted and ratified by Red Deer City Council and the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local 1190.

The agreement is in effect from January 1, 2017 until June 30, 2019.  Effective January 1, 2017, IAFF members will see a 2.5 per cent increase, followed by 1.1 per cent January 1, 2018, 1.1 per cent July 1, 2018 and 1.2 per cent January 1, 2019.

“Negotiations were conducted in a respectful and productive manner,” said Kristy Svoboda, Human Resources Director. “The recommended terms of this agreement enables The City to balance the market pressures of the field with our current financial and economic realities.”
