The City of Red Deer is developing a strategic Urban Forest Management Plan (UFMP). The plan will guide the monitoring, maintenance, protection and enhancement of this vital community asset. Residents of Red Deer are invited to attend a public consultation session to help shape the UFMP and to ensure it adequately reflects the community’s vision for Red Deer’s future urban forest.

The consultation session will include a brief presentation about the Draft Urban Forest Management Plan, its vision, principles, objectives, and action items. Community input into these aspects of the Urban Forest Management Plan will be welcome.

Please join us; your ideas are important and will help shape Red Deer’s urban forest for many years to come.

Development of Red Deer’s Urban Forest Management Plan began in January 2017 and is being undertaken in association with Urban Forest Innovations Inc., a leading urban forest and arboricultural consultancy based in Mississauga, Ontario.

This 20-year plan will focus on trees managed by The City of Red Deer. It will provide best practices and short, medium and long-term strategies to help make monitoring, maintenance, protection and enhancement of the urban forest more effective and efficient. Through the implementation of the plan, Red Deer’s urban forest will become more resilient, safer, and will provide significant benefits for The City’s residents and visitors.

The plan will be developed in consultation with members of the public and with other urban forest stakeholders, and is expected to be completed in late 2017.
