Expertise needed for Regional Assessment Review Board

The Central Alberta Regional Assessment Board is seeking new members to be part of the Assessment Review Board.

Twenty-one central Alberta municipalities are a part of the Central Alberta Regional Assessment Board. The Assessment Review Board is an impartial, independent board comprised of citizen members that hears and issues decisions on formal complaints from property owners who disagree with the assessed values of their property within the partner municipalities.

“We are looking for everyone from retired assessors to those with legal or valuation skills,” said Samantha Rodwell, Deputy City Clerk. “Since this board came together in 2009, it has been very successful at ensuring municipalities have access to qualified, experienced and unbiased board members.”

Board members are selected by a committee of member municipalities. Once selected, they will receive training provided through Municipal Affairs and will receive remuneration for their responsibilities and time spent serving on the board.

Preference will be given to those with expertise on quasi-judicial boards, an assessment, legal or valuation background, legal writing abilities and computer skills; however all applications will be considered. If interested, you must be available during the day for training and hearings.
