Transit fares will change starting September 1, 2018

(Red Deer, Alberta)

Transit users are advised that starting September 1, 2018 there will be an adjustment to some transit fares.

In 2017, Red Deer City Council approved a rate freeze maintaining the 2016 fares. This year, City Council has approved some changes to fares. There is an increase of $2.00 to monthly passes for students and seniors, and a $3.00 increase to the cost of an unlimited day pass to $10.00. Adult single cash fares will decrease by five cents to $2.50 per trip. There is no change to the Adult monthly pass rate.

“We continuously evaluate our ridership which helps to balance our fare structure,” said George Penny, Transit Manager. “As a result, some fares will go up while others go down, and some will stay exactly the same. This ensures that we are able to maintain or improve service levels and provide the best services possible to Red Deerians.”

Effective September 1, single cash fares are:

Adults (18 to 64 years) $2.50
Youth (6 to 17 years) $2.25
Students $2.25
Seniors (65+ years) $2.25
Children (5 and under, except in preschool groups) Free
Preschool groups $2.25 per two children

Monthly Bus Passes:

Adult $70.00
Student/Senior $62.00
Senior GIS subsidized monthly passes   $34.00

Tickets (MyRide 12-ride fare)

Adult  $26.00
Youth/Students/Seniors            $23.00

Day Passes        $10.00

Transit users can purchase MyRide cards that are reloadable with monthly passes, 12 ride cards or multiple months at a time to pay your transit fare. The cards are available at Transit Customer Service in the Sorenson Station terminal downtown or at City Hall and can be reloaded at any of 10 reload stations in Red Deer, Blackfalds or Lacombe. Transit riders are reminded to register their MyRide cards to protect the value held on the account in case a card is lost or stolen.
