Mayor’s Recognition Awards 2018

(Red Deer, Alberta)

Red Deer is home to some extraordinary people, some of whom were called up on stage tonight at the Mayor’s Recognition Awards to stand in the spotlight and be thanked for their significant contributions to our community.

“The Mayor’s Recognition Awards are just one opportunity we have each year to acknowledge the citizens who contribute their skills, knowledge and talents to strive for excellence, demonstrate leadership and build our community. On behalf of City Council and all Red Deerians, it is a privilege to honour those who have made, and continue to make, Red Deer proud,” said Mayor Tara Veer.

This year there were two winners of the Mayor’s Special Award – the highest recognition given by The City of Red Deer. The Red Deer Royals Concert and Marching Show Band, who will soon celebrate their 50th anniversary, was recognized for their volunteerism, contributions to the community, and exceptional achievement of receiving a Gold Medal at the 2017 World Music Contest in the Netherlands. Dayle Clampitt was also honoured with a Mayor’s Special Award for her act of heroism and bravery in leading a group of lost Boy Scouts to safety off a Scottish mountainside.

The Mayor’s Recognition Awards are presented annually to show appreciation for the athletes, volunteers, artists and people who work hard to make our city a vibrant, healthy community.

Citizens are recognized in the following award categories:

  • Athletics
  • Community Builder
  • Distinguished Voluntary Service
  • Fine & Performing Arts
  • Mayor’s Special Award
