Temporary closure on CPR Bridge this week

June 25, 2018 3:45 PM
(Red Deer, Alberta)

The CPR Pedestrian Bridge is scheduled to close for a few days starting Tuesday, June 26 while soil testing is completed.

Contractors will be doing geotechnical work, drilling in multiple locations near the bridge to collect and test soil samples, which will inform the design for future Bridge upgrades.

The bridge will be closed for the duration of the work, which is tentatively scheduled to run from Tuesday, June 26 to Thursday, June 28, 2018. The schedule is based on a number of factors and could be subject to change.

Signs are in place to notify pedestrians of the upcoming closure and a detour will be in place to direct pedestrians to the Gaetz Avenue Bridge.

The City is currently planning future bridge upgrades which will include preventative work to prolong the life of the bridge. Construction is tentatively scheduled for 2019.

Residents are reminded to follow construction signs and keep a safe distance from work sites.
