City Council ratified a new three-year collective agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), Local 417, at its November 13, 2018 meeting. CUPE members previously ratified the agreement on November 6, 2018. The agreement is effective January 1, 2018 and runs until December 31, 2020.
The two parties met over 13 days of bargaining. The City of Red Deer will increase wage rates for their approximately 979 CUPE employees by 1 per cent in January 2018, 1 per cent 2019 and 2 per cent in 2020.
Negotiations proceeded well in an atmosphere of trust and mutual respect. Both parties to the agreement are satisfied that it meets current and future needs. The three-year agreement will assist in maintaining stability in the relationship into the future.
