To continue efforts to coordinate The City’s proactive response to COVID-19, The City of Red Deer has reactivated a COVID-19 Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) at Level One today. While the case numbers in Red Deer, and throughout most of Central Zone, have remained relatively low, COVID-19 is still a risk in our community. With recent increases in cases in other parts of the province as well as the Central Zone, there is a need to enhance our monitoring of, and planning for COVID-19 impacts.
The structure of an EOC allows for centralized communication, decision making and planning that will allow staff to be nimble and flexible to respond to this ever-changing situation. Level One involves a small, dedicated team that focus on a number of key planning and communication objectives. This group will operate via a combination of remote and in-person methods to ensure compliance with all health and safety requirements related to COVID-19.
Our primary goal remains the health and safety of Red Deerians. The City continues to closely monitor the pandemic and follow recommendations and guidelines set out by Alberta Health and the Chief Medical Officer of Health, and we are prepared to adjust our response as needed.
While The City is activating an Emergency Operations Centre, a State of Local Emergency, which gives The City access to additional resources, and special powers under the Emergency Management Act, has not been declared.
Residents are urged to follow all Alberta Health guidelines and public health orders including physical distancing, to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Residents are reminded not to visit City facilities or any public facilities if they are feeling ill. Call Alberta Health Link at 8-1-1 for non-emergency health information about COVID-19 and 9-1-1 only in the case of a life-threatening emergency or crime in progress.
Information about the provincial relaunch strategy, public health orders and data regarding active cases and trends is available at www.alberta.ca/COVID-19.
