Mayor Veer responds to peaceful protests on behalf of City Council

(Red Deer, Alberta)

We strive for Red Deer to be a welcoming community where everyone can enjoy a high quality of life, but unfortunately, we know that racism does exist in our community as it does in so many others.

It has been heartbreaking to bear witness to recent events, and as always, I am proud of our community for coming together to stand in solidarity against racism and to affirm the value of all persons.

It is a democratic right for Canadians to stand up for what we believe in and to protest lawfully and peacefully. We encourage all Red Deerians to share their voice, but remind all citizens that public health and safety must continue to be a priority.

As we continue to navigate the global pandemic, we ask that our citizens continue to follow the guidelines set out by the Provincial Government. Please ensure that, with any activity, physical distancing guidelines are met, masks are worn when distancing is not possible, and that we continue to follow mass gathering restrictions.
