Seasonal patios will be permitted to open in downtown Red Deer with The City launching its seasonal patio program, making it easier for businesses to reopen while adhering to provincial public health orders amid COVID-19.
The program runs each year with downtown food and entertainment businesses encouraged to apply for a patio, which extends out from the front of their business.
“This year is different, but the patio program will continue to run, enabling downtown businesses to increase their operating capacity at a time when doing business is more challenging than ever before,” said Karen Mann.
In addition, The City will open the downtown Ross Street Patio with modified amenities including fewer picnic tables. At this time, no programming is scheduled for the Ross Street Patio, which is scheduled for installation by June 15, 2020.
Businesses who submit an application for the downtown seasonal patio program are required to ensure their patio design meets building codes, and to ensure compliance with all public health orders and restrictions. This includes, but is not limited to, ensuring hand sanitizer is available for patrons, and that physical distancing is maintained.
