The parking lot at G.H. Dawe Community Centre will be re-constructed this summer. Work will begin next week (weather permitting) and is expected to be complete by the end of summer. This is a joint project, supported by Red Deer Public School Division and Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools and managed by The City of Red Deer.
The project includes removal and replacement of asphalt, updating of curb gutters and sidewalks, and removal of existing lighting and installation of new, improved lighting for the parking area.
Nearby residents may experience some construction noise during the project. Hours of construction are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Saturday.
This work aligns with temporary closures of the G.H. Dawe Community Centre, Red Deer Public Library – Dawe Branch, G. H. Dawe School and St. Patricks Community School. Schools and library staff will have limited access to the east and west parking lots. Signage and barricades will be in place for the duration of the project.
Additional construction will take place this summer in preparation for future facility expansion, including underground utility work and replacement of both playgrounds on site. Current playgrounds are at the end of their life span and need to be relocated to accommodate the expansion. More information about this project is available online at www.reddeer.ca/DaweExpansion.
