Red Deer RCMP look for driver after hit and run involving cyclist

Red Deer, Alberta – Red Deer RCMP are looking for the driver of a grey GMC truck after he struck a cyclist at the intersection of 34 Street and Gaetz Avenue the afternoon of July 24.

The collision occurred shortly before 6 pm on July 24 as the cyclist rode north on Gaetz Avenue; as he crossed the intersection at 34 Street with the green light, he was struck by a grey GMC Sierra truck entering the intersection from 34 Street on a red light. The collision knocked the cyclist from his bicycle and he exchanged words with the driver, who then left the scene heading southbound on Gaetz Avenue.

The suspect is described as:

  • Caucasian
  • late 30s to early 40s
  • approximately 5’10” tall
  • heavier build
  • short brown hair and a moustache
  • wearing a brown sweater and blue jeans

The truck is described as a charcoal Grey GMC Sierra, possibly a 2008, with a white GMC decal in the middle of the back window.

The cyclist, a 22 year old Red Deer man, was treated at hospital and released.
