September 4, 2019 2:00 PM

Red Deer, Alta. – In the late night hours on Sept. 2, 2019, police observed an ATV, a motorcycle and a car driving carelessly and at high rates of speed through parking lots and city streets. Police also received several calls about these vehicles driving erratically.

Red Deer RCMP attempted to isolate the incident. At no time did the RCMP pursue any of the vehicles due to concerns for public safety.

At approximately 12:15 a.m., on Sept. 3, 2019, the ATV, which was travelling at a high rate of speed, struck a police vehicle head on at the intersection of Taylor Drive and 67 Street. The male driver suffered serious life threatening injuries during the collision and was transported to hospital via EMS and then flown to Calgary via STARS. The RCMP officer suffered minor injuries and was released from hospital a short time later.

Red Deer RCMP along with a RCMP Collision analyst remained on scene for several hours while the investigation continued. No charges have been laid at this time and police continue to investigate.
