Red Deer has two air quality monitoring stations run by Parkland Airshed Management Zone (PAMZ) and Alberta Environment and Parks. One is on Riverside Drive and one is in Lancaster.
PAMZ is a non-profit society that develops and implements strategies to address air quality concerns in west central Alberta, which includes Red Deer as the largest urban centre within the PAMZ boundaries.
Air pollution is related to a number of health issues including stroke, heart failure, cancer and low birth weight.
