Donate to the City's Public Art Collection
How to Donate Public Art
Public art can be added to The City's collection through new commissions, acquisitions of existing works, or generous donations from the public. If you are interested in donating, the following process ensures that the art enhances our community and meets The City's high standards for public art.
Art Donation Process
1. Submit a Donation Application
All donations of public art require the submission of a "Donation of Artwork for Public Property" application. You can download the form here: Donation or Installation Application for Public Art (pdf) and submit it to culturemailbox@reddeer.ca.
2. Art Selection Criteria
The Public Art Commission uses the following criteria to evaluate submissions:

Artists Qualifications, Exhibition Records & Education | Artists are evaluated on their body of work, education, exhibition history, reputation, and commitment to their practice. Considerations include professional recognition, quality of past exhibitions, and mastery of their medium, whether formally trained or self-taught. | 15 |
Artist Experience/Ability Based on Previous Work | Art related experiences that reflect artists' personal character and influence on others. Qualities such as craftmanship, artistic vision, creativity reflected in previous artworks. | 15 |

Artistic Merit, Quality and Originality | Should be of a high standard and reflect the artist's distinct approach to art making. Has the qualities and uniqueness to be well-received and an asset to the community. | 15 |
Suitability for the Overall Design | Artwork will enhance its surroundings, considering the elements of the site - architecture, landscape, utilities etc. | 15 |
Suitability for Public Consumption | Acceptance and ownership by a wide variety of people and sensitivity to the demographics of community. | 10 |
Conservation & Maintenance | Frequency of care, complicated technical components, specialized or general maintenance and demands on the present and future budgets and staff time. | 10 |

3. Guarantee for Conservation and Maintenance
A donor may be required to provide up to 20 per cent of the total appraised value or budget for the accession to cover administration and conservation costs associated with the art.
4. Review by the Public Art Commission
The Public Art Commission reviews all donation proposals and makes the final decision on acceptance. The Commission ensures that the art aligns with the purpose of the Public Art Program and enhances the community.
5. Donation Agreement
Upon acceptance of a donation, The City will enter into an agreement with the donor to confirm roles, responsibilities, and the outcomes related to the artwork.
Donations of Funds for Public Art
If you would like to donate funds specifically for public art, your donation can be allocated to a particular project or initiative of your choosing. In the absence of a specific request, funds will be placed in the Public Art Reserve and used for future public art initiatives identified by The City.
