Description
The G.H. Dawe Community Centre is a gathering place for wellness, health, and community; a hub for positive activity which we aim to promote through a rippling mural of colour and harmony. Our project, The Seasons, is an immersive experience, one that fosters a sense of wonder, calm and beauty inspired by the vibrant and distinct seasons that we experience as Albertans. This project responds to the cyclical nature of the track, the circle of movement and of nature as each season transitions into the next. Each component is designed to initiate this passage of time through colour harmonies and natural elements that melt and merge as the public moves throughout the space.
With this project, we aim to provide the public with an encouraging and inviting experience that celebrates the local landscape, but we also want to celebrate the local community - the people that make the G.H. Dawe Community Centre a vital place within Red Deer. For this, we look to children and their never-ceasing source of inspiration and wonder. For the textual component, we reached out to two schools in Red Deer for a poetry project, with participants from elementary schools submitting poems that express either the change in seasons or the passing of time.
