Description
The meandering water feature is an expansion that bridges the artists’ previous public artwork in the G.H. Dawe Community Centre, “Kaleidoscope Menagerie”, with a new river that flows freely and has familiar and new objects relating to the flora and fauna of the previous mosaic. The city of Red Deer has a few tributaries that make our green spaces and park systems the gems they are today. Waskasoo Creek, Piper Creek and the Red Deer River are natural assets that flow within and throughout the city limits. In this piece, we are bringing in the natural aspects of these water ways to help guide and elicit a sense of flow and energy, creating a fun visual and easy movement from each floor. Accentuating bubbles of color float within and around this moving waterway while birds, leaves, rabbits, and deer run freely. Inside these bubbles are elements that are made to seem as if they were emerging from the Kaleidoscope Menagerie narrative and into the new area of the facility.
